Yoga Class Descriptions

YIN YOGA

 

This system weaves together the wisdom of Hatha yoga, Traditional Chinese Medicine, 5 Elements philosophy, Taoist philosophy and contemporary bodywork. In this class you can expect to hold restorative postures for 5 minutes or longer in meditative stillness and relaxation. The healing effects of this practice take place deep within the connective tissues, the joints, and the subconscious and emotional body; in turn rooting out the deeper layers of restriction stored there.

 

HATHA

 

This class includes pranayama, asana and mantra to gradually nourish and cleanse body, mind and spirit. Class ends with aromatherapy and a short neck and scalp massage to seal in the benefits of the practice before transitioning into the rest of your day or evening.

 

SLOW FLOW VINYASA

 

This class takes vinyasa down a notch in order to lay down the foundation of the breath and the alignment of the body. The practice becomes a meditation in movement, guided by the slow balanced rhythm of the breath, and set to uplifting music to support the flow. Classes end with aromatherapy and a short neck and scalp massage to seal in the benefits of the practice before transitioning into the rest of your day.

YOGA NIDRA

 

Yoga nidra translates as “sleep with awareness”. This restorative meditation practice done lying down and systematically guides you into deeper states of relaxation, meditation, and into deeper states of consciousness. From these places, the practitioner can access more of his/her own inner resources for healing, transformation and even manifestation of Dharma (one’s heart-based purpose in life). Yoga nidra can be useful during serious illness, or after surgery for increased healing and recovery. It can also be used therapeutically for mental/emotional stress patterns that are holding you back from your dream life.

5 ELEMENTS SEASONAL YOGA

 

These classes focus on the element (Water, Wood, Fire, Earth & Metal) and corresponding season according to Traditional Chinese Medicine. The rhythm of the class will reflect the element we are working on. The class will start with a drop of essential oil to enhance the benefits of the practice and to begin to bring balance to that element in the body. The asanas, pranayama & mantra will be therapeutically focused on the organs and emotions that relate to the element we are working on. Each class will end with savasana as usual followed by a short meditation on the element's highest expression when it is in balance eg. wood's highest expression is compassion.

 

KUNDALINI YOGA

 

This class focuses on the energetic body and freeing energy blockages within the chakras. Kundalini yoga brings asana, pranayama, mantra, and dharana (focus/concentration) into a powerful style of yoga that will challenge you, and leave you feeling invigorated and alive! (available with instructor Zac)
