Frankincense (Black) - Rare!
Origin: Kenya
Sizes: 5mL, 15mL, 120mL
Botanical Family: Burseraceae
Latin Name: Boswellia neglecta
Description: The aroma of Black Frankincense is fresh, resinous, herbaceous, and slightly coniferous with a hint of crisp, clean citrus. This variety of Frankincense is referred to as "Black Frankincense" due to the dark black resin that seeps from the tree naturally. Typically frankincense trees must be tapped manually to release the resin and as it seeps from the tree, it is left to harden, like tears in the sunlight. In the case with Black Frankincense in Kenya, the resin flow is induced by sap feeding beetles that eat the resin-rich inner bark and leave their larvae there where the resin covers and protects the beetles during this stage. The beetle activity stimulates the tree to produce more resin, activating the immune function of the tree and its ability to tolerate drought, while the resin continues to support these insects in this transformative phase of their life cycle with minimal damage to the trees themselves. It is a long standing symbiotic relationship and thanks to these beetles, Samburu resin harvesters in northern Kenya have less work to do! Research suggests that beetles were the first resin harvesters that revealed to humans the valuable healing properties of the resin and without the wise beetle to show us, there would be no frankincense. Black Frankincense as an essential oil is an immune system tonic, a Central Nervous System tonic, anti-viral, anti-bacterial, anti-microbial, anti-anxiety, anti-depressant, anti-inflammatory, anti-tumor, anti-cancer (especially when combined with Galbanum & Myrrh), anti-arthritic, anti-rheumatic, analgesic, decongestant, a respiratory aide, and healing to the skin (wounds/scars/inflammation). This essential oil penetrates the muscles deeply and can assist with loosening muscular stiffness and improve range of motion in the joints. Frankincense in general has been used historically in religious and spiritual traditions the world over for the purposes of spiritual liberation, meditative practices and to purify or heighten one’s connection to God/Eternal Cosmic Consciousness/Oneness. On an emotional and energetic level, this essence addresses that which is hidden in the subconscious and emotional body, bringing the darkness out to the surface for purification and transformation, while at the same time offering a layer of protection just as the resin protects the beetles during its transformation and rebirth. Bring in this essence during times of passage for cultivating security while grounding into a new version of yourself with confidence and faith.
